Project Officer - Accurate Information to Access Insurance

I am the Accurate Information to Access Insurance Research Officer for a project being undertaken by Genetic Alliance UK on Genetics and Insurance between January 2012 and May 2012.

The Genetic and Insurance project will look to produce accurate and impartial information that is easily accessible for people with and at risk of long-term genetic conditions who wish to access insurance. There is an estimated 4 million people in the UK affected by genetic conditions; Genetic Alliance UK receives many enquiries from those affected about difficulties with accessing insurance.

This project aims to develop clear and easily accessible information that will contain accurate answers to questions which are often presented by those with genetic conditions.

My role on this project will be to:

• Identify, collect and review accurate information about genetics and insurance from what has already been published in the area, government and the insurance industry.
• Consult with individuals, patient groups, health care professionals, insurers and other stakeholders to identify the information that people with and at risk of genetic conditions need.
• Develop and produce information on genetics and insurance into an accessible and practical resource that is freely and widely available.
