Role: Fundraising Intern
Responsible to: Fundraising Manager
Based at: Genetic Alliance UK, CAN Mezzanine, 49-51 East Road, London, N1 6AH
Preferred term: Full time for eight weeks
Start date: Monday 29 July (or as soon as possible after this date).
Remuneration: £10.55 per hour
We are the national charity working to improve the lives of patients and families affected by all types of genetic conditions. We are an alliance of over 200 patient organisations. We conduct psychosocial and economic research and we are experts in health policy. Our aim is to ensure that high-quality services, information and support are provided to all who need them. We actively support research and innovation across the field of genetic medicine. This is an exciting time to join Genetic Alliance UK as our new and ambitious strategy brings opportunities for growth, innovation and expansion across the organisation.
In addition to supporting our members, Genetic Alliance UK also runs following long-term projects:
Rare Disease UK – a multi-stakeholder coalition brought together to work with Government to implement the UK Strategy for Rare Diseases and improve access to treatment and care.
SWAN UK (syndromes without a name) – the only UK based network providing information and support to families of children and young people who have undiagnosed genetic conditions.
To succeed in our work, we need to grow our community fundraising income across Genetic Alliance UK, SWAN UK and Rare Disease UK. This role will contribute to that success.
Our aim for this internship is to offer an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual who wants to establish and develop their career in charitable fundraising. For the right candidate this is an opportunity to gain substantial experience in delivering a range of fundraising activities while working in a supportive environment and within a wider organisational strategy. It will also give the opportunity to learn about genetic, rare and undiagnosed conditions and the policy and research work that Genetic Alliance UK does in this space.
This is an office based role, in a workspace shared with other non-profit organisations, located by Old Street tube station. The role may require occasional travelling (within the UK).
The internship will be focused on community fundraising – engaging our supporters in fundraising activities, supporting them in planning their own events and activities. The role will also involve keeping up-to-date records, drafting engaging online content/infographics, and supporting the development of fundraising packs and materials. There will be ample opportunity for our intern to contribute ideas about how best to expand and build our community fundraising programme. The role may also include aspects of the planning and management of events as well as supporting the development of cases for support and prospect research.
