Genetic Alliance UK appoints new CEO

Last Reviewed 08/02/2017

As many in our community will already be aware, our Director of over 20 years, Alastair Kent OBE, announced in September that he will be stepping down in April 2017. We are delighted to announce that Dr Jayne Spink will be joining us as our new CEO in April. Jayne joins us from a successful tenure as the CEO of the Tuberous Sclerosis Association and will bring her scientific, campaigning and management skills to further develop our long term aims of supporting, campaigning and uniting patients with genetic conditions and their families. Alastair will step down after a period of handover to ensure a smooth transition.

“Jayne joins us at a time of increasing challenge within the healthcare system, but the needs of patients with genetic conditions must be met and the promise of ever more complex and specific medical developments raises the potential for more clinical and pharmaceutical opportunities to improve care. We believe Jayne’s enthusiasm, professionalism and commitment are essential for Genetic Alliance UK’s future growth and our ability to positively influence key stakeholders across government, the NHS, regulators and research.” Christopher Goard, Chair.
"I have long held Genetic Alliance UK and its membership in great esteem and I am looking forward enormously to joining the team. It’s a great honour to have been appointed as CEO and would like to pay tribute to the dedication of my predecessor Alastair Kent whose achievements have been remarkable." Jayne Spink, Incoming CEO.
“I am delighted to welcome Jayne to her new role. She has a wealth of relevant experience and a solid track record of success throughout her career to date. Her insight and energy will help take Genetic Alliance UK to new heights”. Alastair Kent, Director.

Alastair’s long tenure has had an immensely positive impact on the charity and the lives of those affected by rare, genetic and undiagnosed conditions over more than twenty years, a fact acknowledged in 2011 with his award of OBE for services to healthcare. Alastair’s contribution to Genetic Alliance UK has been outstanding and we wish him well for the future.
